We all like going into a workout with a clear mind and a body that is ready to take on the challenge. What we eat can make or break a workout. Grabbing a quick bite to eat before heading to the gym becomes easier when we are familiar with the foods that will truly fill us up and energize us.
It’s good to get into a pattern of eating every 3-5 hours, which can assist with energy levels becoming stabilized and keeping hunger at bay. A majority of people need about 3 snacks per day. Snacks should consist of a carbohydrate, protein, and/or fat. This combination will keep you satisfied, provide energy and balance. You can also achieve the perfect variety that will satisfy any craving when keeping this combination in mind.
Let’s take a look at some tasty snacks that pack a punch.
Craving salty and sweet? Try almond or peanut butter with an apple or banana. This is not only the perfect combination to combat that sweet and salty craving, but it also is an excellent source of fiber and protein to power you through your next workout.
Try making your own energy balls. These guys consist of nut butter, dried fruit, and seeds. Most recipes are “no bake” which makes it that much easier to prep. Packed with protein and nutrients your body needs, these make the perfect snack to keep on hand throughout the week. Check out this recipe we love:

Looking for a drinkable option? Consider a Greek yogurt smoothie! Greek yogurt is not only tasty, but offers more protein than regular yogurt. Add strawberries, bananas, peanut butter, and oatmeal, this incredibly healthy smoothie will keep you full for hours.
We can’t forget our beloved veggies. Add homemade hummus, and BOOM you have that punch. Made with chick peas, this legume is packed with protein. It also contains vitamins, minerals, and fiber, making it an amazingly nutritious snack option. Take a look at this delicious hummus we tried:
