Low to No Carb Bread, No Problem

If your just started on keto or some other low-carb diet, bread is probably something you are missing right now. We get it, bread is comforting and filling, but this high-carb staple isn’t exactly doing you any favors if you are trying to lose weight.

Most servings of bread will be about 30-40 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of fat, and no protein, which isn’t ideal if weight loss is your goal. This high ratio of carbs to fat and protein in bread can cause your blood sugar to spike. This can lead to insulin resistance, which is the root cause of diabetes. Not good! Have no fear though, with a little creativity there are plenty of bread substitutes for you to get your carb fix.

Cloud Bread- is an easy, grain-free, and gluten-free bread that’s light and airy in texture. This fluffy bread alternative can be used as a burger bun, sandwich bread, tortilla, or pizza crust. Nutrition wise, one serving contains just 35 calories, less than 1 gram of net carbs, 2 grams of fat, and 2 grams of protein. It’s also very easy to make, it takes less than an hour to prepare and requires just four ingredients — eggs, cream cheese, cream of tartar, and salt.

Almond Flour Bread- is an excellent substitute for regular white bread flour and can easily be found in health stores or on Amazon. This is also pretty easy to make yourself. You will need almond flour, eggs, baking powder, olive oil, and a loaf pan. It contains just 4 grams of total carbohydrates, or 2 grams net carbs per serving.

Cauliflower Bread/Crust– is not only very low-carb, but it also delivers a great amount of essential nutrients. There are plenty of versions that you can buy in your local grocery store.

Fathead Pizza Dough– is an easy low carb, gluten-free pizza crust with just 4 simple ingredients. All you need is almond flour, mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, and some eggs. We also suggest using parchment paper.

If you don’t have time to make your own bread, low-carb bread is becoming increasingly easier to find in your favorite grocery stores. Check out some of these brands!
