Hydrate!

With the heat being unruly this summer, it’s incredibly important to stay hydrated!

For some people, water isn’t the go-to due to its lack in taste. Many people use energy drinks or hydration supplements to keep their blood pumping through their veins. There are some benefits to these other options but there are also some hinderances.

Pros:

Can be portable: Many of these new supplements can be carried in tablet form or even gummies. Making it easier and a more compact way to carry your extra boost of hydration.

You can mix it: Many of these tablets and powders can be dissolved and mixed in with water, smoothies, dairy products, or even juices. Making your drink more customizable and easier to consume.

Many Flavors: Many fitness powders come in different flavors and usually end up tasting more like a Gatorade by the end of mixing it into your drink.

Many are combined with other supplements: The fitness world has really mastered the science of combining nutrients and additives within supplements. You can often find amino combinations, protein add-ons, collagen boosts, and extra vitamins mixed in with your drinks.

Electrolytes: What helps keep us hydrated are the electrolytes we receive in food, the minerals we find in water and the supplements we consume. Most of these supplements are jam packed with the nutrients to keep you pumping even when you’re tired. This nutrient also helps prevent cramping.

Cons:

Added Calories: Water is obviously zero calories so anything added to it will result in added calories.

Unnatural: Some do have natural ingredients, but most do contain altered sources of energy and hydration retention.

Additives: Sometimes it’s difficult to find a product that has the single benefit you’re looking for without the add-ons.

Allergies: Some of these products can contain dairy, soy, nut, or color dye. Many of which people are allergic to.

Can cause bloating: If you use salt tablets especially, it can cause some slight bloating due to water retention. Which can be uncomfortable.

Water is and has been a perfectly natural way to keep the body hydrated since the beginning of time. Other supplements can work but aren’t as natural as an option. Whichever you choose, make sure you’re eating well, resting, and keeping the sun off your skin for extended hours at a time to prevent heat stroke or sun sickness. Most importantly, enjoy the beautiful weather and have a happy summer!
