Healthy Summer Cocktails

If you value a healthy lifestyle incorporating even the occasional alcoholic drink may be a challenge. Dinners out are often accompanied by a glass of wine. A social night on the town often entails a cocktail or two. If you are ready to celebrate the arrival of summer with a cold adult beverage, we are here to help. Many types of alcoholic drinks contain loads of carbs and calories. Luckily, that doesn’t mean you have to sip water when you’re socializing with friends and family this summer, we have options! If you are going with making your own drinks, we have some tips to follow. Instead of using sugar, go with sugar substitutes. Use low-carb fruits and veggies in your drinks like strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cucumbers, lemons, and limes to add flavor. Opt for natural, no-sugar-added bubbly water to add fizz and additional flavor. Choose your liquor wisely! Pure forms of alcohol like whiskey, gin, tequila, and vodka typically are your better options. Some liquors are loaded with sugar like Amaretto, Irish Cream, and Kahlua, steer clear from these. If you don’t have time to be your own bartender and want to be able to grab a 6 pack of something, thanks to the emergence of alcoholic seltzers you have many options. To name a few: White Claw Pure Hard Seltzer, Truly Hard Seltzer, Bud Light Seltzer, Bon & Viv Spiked Seltzer, Corona Hard Seltzer, and Smirnoff Seltzer 4 Ways to Rosé. If you are more of a beer drinker, your best options are Michelob Ultra Pure Gold, Amstel Light, Budweiser Select 55 Premium Light, Beck’s Premier Light, Yuengling Light Lager, Miller 64 Extra Light Lager, Corona Premier, Miller Genuine Draft “64”, Michelob Ultra, and IC Light.
